    Are There Still Snowboard Rankings?

    Pat,

Do you know if the new USSA operators of NASTAR intend to keep snowboarding as a separate discipline with its own rankings?

When I look at my results, I don't see anything which indicates that I was riding a snowboard. It's like I'm just being thrown in with the skiers.

Not that I can even find any rankings.

    Did I miss something?

With the new software I suspect all default disciplines were reset to Skiing. When I brought up the ID I use for snowboarding it had switched to skiing.
Go to NASTAR.com, click on Register, Select "Claim Your Existing Account", Log in, and change the discipline to Snowboarding. Alternatively, when you're at the mountain, you can ask the folks handling registration to make the change.

Either way Darko, we both agree that the snowboard handicaps need to be changed. Thanks for your input.

I tried what you suggested, Pat, but I can't confirm that I've "claimed" my account. When I clicked "discipline" it only toggled between up and down arrow symbols. Admittedly I'm really, really bad at navigating websites, so my failure may not be indicative of the user friendliness of the system.

And, ptimkey, I'm not all that concerned about the snowboard handicapping. We're slower and I can live with that. What would be fun to see is an 'absolute' national, state, and resort snowboarder ranking, regardless of age group or gender, since there are so few of us.

    Bingo. It works.

Thanks, Pat. I finally merged the accounts and found some 15-16 results, and the little 'S' for snowboarder shows up.

Pete, I love the new course. The start has a decent pitch to it, so snowboarders don't get penalized as much for not having poles. There's more room, too, so when I carve wide around the gates, I'm no longer flirting with the safety fence. Like the timer display, too.

Happy to report that Justin Reiter will be pacesetting at Steamboat.

Justin was the sole snowboard racer representing the US at the Sochi Olympics.

He is very dedicated to his sport and has earned the title of Vice World Champion.

Check out more about Justin and plan on joining us at Steamboat!

I got the opportunity to try out a vintage Burton Ultra Prime board and discovered it rides nice. I may bring it to Steamboat.

The Handicap allowances for earning medals have been changed for snowboarders! Your handicap doesn't change but the threshold for earning various medals will. Snowboarders will see a big difference this year.

*Handicap Discounts are used for winning medals and scoring team points
