Looks like no more NASTAR at Vail Resorts

Looks like Vail Resorts have come up with their own version of public racing... see Epicmix link....

Bummer! It goes on to say:

    • Will NASTAR be open at your resorts? No. The NASTAR race courses will no longer be offered at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breck, and Keystone.

That's a real shame. I'm scratching those mountains off my destination list.

I'm with you Pat. This might reinforce my decision about whether or not to buy the Mountain Collective Pass. "The Mountain Collective is a ground-breaking collaboration between Alta, Aspen/Snowmass, Jackson Hole, and Squaw Valley/Alpine Meadows."

What's going on here? Vail Resorts attempting to rule the World? This news both disappoints and saddens me. I've enjoyed NASTAR at Breck and Keystone and had looked forward to running the courses there this coming season. No need to go try the VR substitute program. Assume LV is no longer associated with NASTAR.

Was Lindsey Vonn ever associated with NASTAR?

She did one special event through NASTAR at Vail last April

Here are links to online stories about Vail's program. All of them invite comments......

Thanks Pat, I did remember that event (as well as other links of her posted on the NASTAR site, e.g. How Lindsey Vonn visualizes her race course), but I wasn't sure the Vail event was an "official" association or if her race just used the NASTAR course and timing setup. In other words, I didn't think she was ever a NASTAR ambassador like Ligety or Mancuso.

Guys we are looking into this as this would be a huge mistake for Vail. From what I know is that another lane will be used for the EpicMix racing at Vail. I will have the skinny on this by Monday.

Yes, a huge mistake for Vail and a big loss for NASTAR. See this previous post on the NASTAR site:
    http://www.nastar.com/articles/vail-...-1-with-nastar

Vail Resort recorded the most NASTAR Racer Days during the 2010-11 season.....the most NASTAR Racer Days and the most NASTAR starts in that season.

I switched to the Rocky Mountain Super Pass Plus good at Winter Park, Copper Mountain and Steamboat for the coming season. The comparable pass at Vail Resorts was 90 dollars more, exceeding my personal limit for a season pass of $500. So glad I switched now! I will continue to support NASTAR whole heartedly!! ADIOS VAIL RESORTS!!!
