    New Junior Age Categories

The FIS & USSA have changed their junior age category structure. In an effort to be consistent across all levels of alpine racing NASTAR is considering changing their age categories to match USSA. Let us know if agree with the change or not and why. Below are links to the new age groups:

My soon-to-be five year old grandson thinks it's a great idea!

I don't have any "skin in the game" so the new age categories look fine to me. I do note that with respect to being able to inscribe to the FIS list, a phenom such as Mikaela Shiffrin would not be eligible. At young ages, there is a wide range of maturity levels, but for speaking for one who is chronologically challenged, it doesn't matter much to me. :)

This is good. Then there won't be so much confusion when all the USSA kids sign up for Nastar Nationals.

Agreed. Nastar should be viewed as a stepping stone to higher level organized racing for kids (if they choose), and should speak the same language.

You're slippin cause you missed my sarcasm.
Good....for when USSA kids sign up for Nationals? No NOT good. When accomplished USSA kids sign up for a recreational race that is a sham.
Now when Nastar kids want to reach out and step up to USSA, YES, that is a good thing. But not the other way around.

Why not? USSA kids are not necessarily accomplished at all. I did totally miss your sarcasm.

Agreed....as a father of racers ages 4 to 17 this year (And supporter of NASTAR with Skin in the game)...makes sense and really doesn't make a significant change at any level except maybe the old 5/6 category (Now 6/7) and 4 and under category now 5 and under...
