Let's Go Traveling - Aspen, Co

    Hi NASTAR Junkies............

I had the pleasure of skiiing in Aspen this winter and took the opportunity to take some pics of the race courses that I raced at in the area.

Aspen is a NASTAR junkie's dream, because you can race NASTAR at any one of three resorts - Snowmass, Aspen Highlands, and Aspen Mountain - which are all within a stone's throw of each other, and if you're really crazy, I suppose you could race all three on the same day, because the lift ticket is good at all the resorts!

In addition, I also had the opportunity to race in the Aspen Times Town Series GS race at Aspen Highlands while I was there, and took pics of that course too, as a comparison.

Hope you enjoy the view, and for those of you thinking about going, this will give you an idea of what to expect!

Just follow the link for each resort race course to Picsa, and do a slideshow of each to get the best effect.

    Enjoy!

Thanks X for posting these photos. I have always wondered what the Nastar courses at these resorts look like.

Thanks for posting the pictures Matt. Susie and I went to Snowmass over Valentine's Day and had a blast. The cool thing about Snowmass is that they have the ability to vary their course set from the start house to the 4th or 5th gate. They can use the "right side" looking downhill, which squeezes the racers between a stand of trees, or they can set to the "left side" which is decipted in your pictures.

The right side course creates challenges as the knoll puts all gates past 4 or 5 out of sight until the racer crowns the knoll. The left side can actually make for a faster course and gives the racers a near top-to-bottom view of the entire course.

We're thinking about hitting Aspen Mountain next weekend as we have some discount tickets to use before seasons end.

    Thanks a lot Racer X!

Informative and useful as all your posts. Hopefully, I'll race there someday.

Very cool, Racer X. It is always cool to see resort's race courses. Better to race them, but seeing pics is the next best thing.

How did you like Highlands Bowl? That's the best part of the whole mountain.

Never went there - by the time I got done with the Aspen Times GS race, then NASTAR, it was 2 pm, and I didn't feel like hiking an hour for one run in the bowl - plus, I only had my race skis with me, not exactly the best ski for the bowl, and most importantly, there was cold beer waiting for me back at the condo at Snowmass.

    :)
