I'm just kind of puzzled. Sure, snowboard racers are still in the minority but our numbers have grown significantly. Last year at the NASTAR Open at Windham, adult skiers numbered 75. There were six racers on 2-track, mono, telemark, etc. and eight adult snowboarders.

At last week's Mt. Dew race at Okemo, there were 132 skiers and 22 boarders. It was a short race as Mt. Dew usually is but I was pretty pleased with the outcome.

At the end of the day my arthritic knees are in much less pain if I've spent the day on a board rather than skis. I haven't competed in the halfpipe since I was 58. I still might do the odd slopestyle or boardercross competition but my focus is on racing.

Take the case of Ron Shepard, Snowsports Director at Crystal Mountain. He is a terrific ski racer as is evidenced by his strong performance at the recently completed pacesetting trials yet last year when he went to the Nationals, he competed only on a snowboard.

Take a moment to watch this video of the Italian team. Once you get past the skateboarding, and slack line footage, you'll see them freeriding and then spending time in the gates. The one common theme is a big grin on their faces. As much as I enjoy ski racing, if it came down to having to make a choice, snowboarding would win out.

GB, it was great to see you and Cinciracer at the Open. I forgot to mention how well you two did in my last message. I also see that you really smoked the course GB on Sunday at the Family Challenge - congratulations.

I really enjoyed the Open. Hope to see everyone again next year.

Why are you attacking ME? And what do you mean day to day life? Are you suggesting I'm okay with nights, just not days?

WHOA!!! Good one. I thought you would rely on the tried and true "I'm rubber and you're glue" response.
