The Hartford Courant ran another of my shots this morning.

Yikes, that reminds me of when I used to waterski in my teen years. Very realistic photos, looks like it was a perfect day.

At my last art show little kids kept asking if the drawing of John Lennon was Harry Potter. I figured I'd better draw Harry next so I did this one during a show this past weekend.

The long running argument as to who invented skiing aerials can finally be put to rest.

In anticipation of a lengthy power outage, I hauled out the pencils again. This still needs some finetuning but here's what I've cranked out so far. The Prince of Weird.....

Okay I'm ready for winter. So bored that I drew the "father-in-law" of the guy above.

Over the years, I've gotten a lot of special requests with orders but this is a first. A customer ordered a pair of junior mogul skis and and asked that we "draw a large dalmatian on the package". I'm always happy to oblige.

    Digging through the family archives.....

Dad grew up skiing in Wisconsin and was a competitive ski jumper just before WWII. I just ran across this grainy photo of him probably taken around 1939.

Downhill skiing back then did exist but a lack of lifts made for a little extra work but that never dissuaded him.

He introduced me to skiing in 1956 at Berchtesgadenn in Bavaria when he was stationed at Wiesbaden AFB.

There were no lifts near Wiesbaden so we'd go to Rheinblick Golf Course in the winter and ski. It was more cross country than anything else. I'm on the far left of this shot.

We moved back to the states in 1959 and dad convinced me to go off a jump at Belknap (now Gunstock) in New Hampshire. I wiped out big time and haven't tried it since.

In 1962 I quit skiing and took up competitive skydiving ultimately settling in Florida where I could jump year round. Happily I rediscovered the joys of skiing (and took up snowboarding) in the winter of 1996-97.

Dad retired in Stowe where he continued to ski until the mid 80s when he moved to South Carolina where at age 91 he follows my NASTAR results online. He got a huge thrill when great grandson Ryan made the podium at last year's Nationals and was awarded his medal in the 1-4 year old division by Picabo Street.

Love the photos and stories Pat! It is great that your father gets to see his love of skiing passed down through the generations. Skiing is a wonderful gift parents give their children.

    Happy Holidays,
