It's been too quiet around here!

The weather has been chilly in New England but I'm still managing to get out to play a few rounds before the ACL reconstruction takes place on June 22nd.

I'm trying to free up some time to resume sketching and I've also uploaded a few photos to an online photo site. One of them is a finalist for Photo of the Week. My screen name there is gymnast46. I'm happy to report that the shot was taken at the Nationals in Winter Park and is of my roommate Rob Dexter on the run that earned him a podium spot in the Men's 55-59 Platinum division.

We went to NYC last weekend and here are a couple of shots I took that day:

Pat,
Congratulations! That's a great shot of Rob. He's an excellent racer. It looks like Staurday's race given the amount of snow on the course. Where were you standing when you took this?

Thanks Tom,

That was indeed Saturday and it was Rob's second run. He needed to smoke it to make the podium and he recorded the second fastest time of the day. This shot was in a sequence of perhaps 20 shots I took at five frames a second with a 300 mm lens. I was outside the ropes of Lower Hughes, Skier's Right. Here's an enlarged view of the shot.

Photos continued.....

I've been fooling around with a piece of software called Dynamic Photo Professional. It's a great tool for enhancing the saturation, contrast, hues, etc. of the original. Here two shots I took on a trip to the Mediterranean.

Still learning the new photo enhancement software. Check out this sunset I shot from a cruise ship off the coast of Haiti a couple of years ago.

Finally got some time to get back to sketching. Here's my first effort in quite a while. And no, it's not Putterman!

Pat,
This is one of your best yet. The attention to detail in the eyes, the hair, the teeth & the use of shading on the face is really well done. As an architect & a fellow artist, I commend you on your work. Nice job. You tend to excel at portrait vs. still life.

Pat,

Those are great. That sketch of AJ is excellent, I am sure he would really like it.

My photo of Rob didn't win the contest but my wife is a finalist this week with a picture she shot ten years ago when we were biking in Lermoos, Austria. She used my first-ever digital camera that was only capable of 640 x 480. Nevertheless, it really came out nice.

The site is www.bytephoto.com and photographers the world over submit their work. There are some really talented contributors. I'm learning a lot from looking at their work. My screen name there is gymnast46.

Thanks Tom!

I'm having fun and learning as I go. Encouragement helps. I really appreciate it.
