Of course this may be another reason deer populations are down....

Not exactly in my "back yard," but not that damn far away!!!

Have you guys both only hit one deer? I've hit at least 5 so far....

Not lately though. The DNR has done a nice job of managing the population. The big time hunters don't agree. They think that the deer are wiped out.[/b]
That's because all the hunters go up there. While down here we are being over run with the big fat corn fed variety. Since high powered rifles aren't so great in the back yard, maybe I should get Chuck Norris to kick every deer in the face. That should teach them to mess around on MY deck!!

Yikes! I guess I should consider myself lucky this is all we've seen. My wife did see one on our wedding day almost nine years ago but this is the first since then. Over the years my ex and I managed to hit four with the car or van.

A good friend hit a bear with her Subaru last winter near Okemo. The bear was lying in the road so she got out of the car. The bear stood up! Paula managed to beat a hasty retreat to the car which had incurred a fair amount of damage.

She agrees it was not one of the brightest things she's ever done.....

As I sit down to write this, I have to chuckle. I just came in from putting out a trough of corn...for the deer! The wife insists that none shall starve over the winter, so corn and apples, corn and apples, every evening...

There was a trail of deer slobber complete with green stuff the rest of the way down my car. $2800 for repairs[/b]
I have to tell you I will be laughing for days every time I think of the phrase "deer slobber". In fact I am laughing right now as I type this.

Luckily my only run in with a deer and my GMC Yukon was a small tap. I bumped the deer just enough for it to wrap around the front fender and leave a hair sample in the trim near my tire. I never thought to look for the slobber!

The first time I hit one was in West Virginia with my 1973 Chevy van. It must have been 1977 and my daughter (now a parent herself) was 3 years old. By the time I got the van stopped, two guys in a pickup truck had slammed on the brakes and thrown the deer in their pickup bed before speeding off. Heather gave me that look like I had just killed Bambi's mother.

We got snow last night and there were more tracks outside the kitchen window......

OK, here's one you don't see every day. My wife took this pic out our back door last week.

No kidding. Those are two real bald eagles - one mature, one immature (the brown one is the young immature one) they were hunting for ducks on the ice out back of our house on the Detroit River and decided to take a break in our neighbor's tree.

Now that's something you don't see every day in the lower 48.

Those eagles are gorgeous! There is a bald eagle sanctuary north of Galena, IL and Dubuque, Iowa off the Mississippi River, and a few have nests along the river. They are so big and so beautiful. Certainly the right animal to be our national symbol!

    Thanks for sharing the pics,
