A question for race staff persons. I once saw a mic switch that was controlled with a foot pedal. It was a real cool way to "do it all". Anybody have one of these and what it is called? I WANT ONE!!!

There are a number of various muting switches like you are asking about. Mainly used for bands on stage but could be applied to most any mic and amplifier.man... that WOULD be nice! Let me know if you find one.[/b]
Here are a few links for some products to start with:
Mic Mute Floor Switch
And a Second one
ya, a friend of mine is going to try to mod those type switches to PTT. I have found some good candidates, one by Heil, one by MFJ and one from China. I'm going to try a few options and will report back. Got to be heavy duty, just short of bulletproof. Everything in my timing shack gets destroyed easily.

There is a company named Linemaster that makes a wide variety of industrial footswitches. Try looking in W.W. Grainger. I think you could use one of these for your mic application.ya, a friend of mine is going to try to mod those type switches to PTT. Cheapest way for a DIY'er. Find a foot pedel for a sewing machince at a second hand store. Cut the power cord and make that the mic input master (always on). FROM the foot switch should be three wires. Find the lead the is actived by the switch. That lead goes to the mic. These pedals are very cheap and are routinely thrown out.
Works super so far but time will tell.
