Thread: gas prices (rant)

Some say they don't believe in global warming...[/b]
It is irrefutable that we are in our 5th interglacial period, when looking back about 650 million years. Meaning we have had 4 ice ages previously, and will eventially have our 5th, but not when we are around.

The term "global warming" gets tossed about quite haphazardly, when most people really mean "anthropogenic global warming." Anthropenic means global warming caused by human effects.

I suspect you are referring to "anthropogenic global warming"?

If so, would it upset you if you discovered you've been manipulated into believing global warming is man-made?

BTW, I rode my skiers edge plyometric trainer today.

P.S. the last sentence was to make a small attempt at keeping this thread skier related.

How far did you get on the skiers edge? Did you save gas money? Did it help save the world?

The problem is everytime I go left, I immedately go right, so I seem to not get very far. Since the time spent on the machine kept me from using any electricty or any other powered device, I suspect my carbon footprint at the moment was quite small. Although, the way I sweat, and the calories burned must have significantly added additional CO2 to the atmosphere.

Just remember that matter can neither be created nor desroyed, so it doesn't matter... Doesn't it also follow that every time you lose wieght, someone else gains it?

I watched something on Discovery a weekend or so ago. They said the same thing about Ice Ages. Our kids and their kids and their kids wont see it but its bound to happen, again. Even if we do our best to stop the warming it will only help a little. (Not saying we should not be responsible about our place on the earth) Basically we are between Ice Ages. It seems the spinsters want us all to believe global warming can be stopped. They also want us to believe if steps to halt global warming are not taken the earth will fall apart in 100 years. Maybe Mr Gores company will have made enough money by then so that they can make a huge snow maker and recover the shrinking polar caps.

In case you haven't seen the Great Global Warming Swindle on the BBC check it out. It is an hour long but well worth the time. This film is now required viewing in the UK schools along side Al Gore's prize winner. Speaking of Al Gore, where's he been lately? I haven't seen him since last summer. I guess this past winter with record snowfalls everywhere scared him away. I'm sure he'll be back in August when it's hot again.

Great video! Thanks. I get so sick of hearing about "Global Warming." I am all for being environmentally responsible and doing our best to preserve the environment as much as is feasible, but to suggest that we can "reverse" global warming by changing our lightbulbs and driving more fuel efficient vehicles is beyond ridiculous.

You know, if everyone stopped exercising, therefore lowering their body temperature by ONLY 1 DEGREE, we COULD reverse the effects of GW. You know what else? I'm going to succumb to only every OTHER flatulent urge, therefore reducing ozone depleting gasses. Sorry gotta go. I have to drive my 3/4 ton diesel into town to buy gas for my mower. I promise to hold in all windy movements during said excursion...to offset the emissions from my vehicles.

(BTW Jamie, I agree on each of us doing whatever we can to minimize our poluting...)

Pat, you are absolutely right. People in other countries have been paying these kinds of prices for years. I remember being in Germany 13 some odd years ago and seeing prices around 80 to 90 cents...a LITER!

Enough ranting, sorry. Hey In.racer, guess you're not the only one a little upset about this...[/b]
Don't fall into the trap...........much of the extra cost of fuel in Europe is to pay for the socialist lifestyle they lead - much of that $9.00/gallon cost of fuel in Eurpoe goes into paying for unlimited socialist health care, 6 month vacations for everybody, and the like.

Please, please, please, don't say we're lucky because we haven't paid high gas prices all these years and the Europeans have, so I guess it's ok now to pay as much as them. Look at it that we've been much smarter than them all these years for not allowing our governments to tax us to death.......until now anyway.

And to change the subject, how is a windfall profits tax on the oil companies going to help us, and help keep the cost of gas down. Looks to me like a pure money grab by congress on a cash cow.

I know, I know, .......end of rant.

Ah..but how in the world is the ski industry going to make it if we keep burning fossil fuels like we do and the planet keeps getting warmer? Some say they don't believe in global warming, but I have noticed that my ski season keeps getting shorter and shorter. ........[/b]

Please. Global warming is a complete and utter sham, foisted upon us by those who want to contol the way we live.....pure and simple.

I talked to my sister in Salt Lake City, and they took a drive up to Alta yesterday - they have so much snow that you could still ski Alta top to bottom, and Snowbird just closed for the season yesterday. So shorter seasons????? I don't think so. They had record snow (700 inches plus) in Utah last winter. No doubt due to global warming. Sarcasm intended!

Wisconsin is at about 600 feet elevation, and about 40 degerees latitude. In April-May-June, it get warm, and the snow melts. Has been doing this for 400 + years, and will continiues to do so.

I bet come December, it'll get cold and start snowing again, and you'll be skiing by Christmas.

But Global warming? Please, don't insult our intelligence.
