What a difference a year makes! Last year a dearth of snow postponed the trials twice before we were finally able to run them at Sunapee on a long, steep, icy, turny course. I was completely out of my element and my poor performance shows I was intimidated.

Fast forward one year to a perfect day on War Dance at Okemo. We had gotten yet another big dump during the night and poor Bill Madsen didn't get to Ludlow until 3:45 am. Remembering how tight AJ had set last year's course I opted to run on my new ELAN SLX slalom skis. Coupled with my new "Crazy Blue" Lange WC120 boots (canted 5 1/2 degrees!) I attacked the course with a lot more confidence. At 61 I was easily the oldest participant but was pleased with my results: 18.64 (Gold) in coats and 16.24 (Platinum) in suits. I even made one run on the snowboard but the results haven't been uploaded as of this posting so I don't know how I did there. Riding the deep ruts on the board would have taken me too close to the gates so I rode in the soft stuff so I don't believe the time was particularly fast.

It was a great day and Okemo was a good host. I'm tentatively planning on opening Okemo's NASTAR course this Friday if anyone is in town.

Update: I just found out the course won't open until Saturday, Dec 29. Hope that doesn't mess up anyone's plans.
