Need Resort Recommendation for Dillon, CO

OK NASTAR Junkies,

I need a reccommendation.

I am going to Dillon, CO next Friday, will be there a week, and want to know what resort(s) to go to that will get me some gate time in a NASTAR course. If any of you Colorado NASTAR junkies could help with some recommnedations, I'd appreciate it.

Specifically, do any resorts have NASTAR on weekdays, or only weekends? Who has the best NASTAR courses? How late do they stay open? Etc. Other information?

How about an evaluation of NASTAR at the following resorts - also an evaluation of the resorts too:

-Keystone
-Breckenridge
-Copper
-Vail

Elsewhere?

Where would you go and why? :?:

Hi Racer X,

IMHO Copper has the best NASTAR course out of all of them. Copper has a moderate pitch with a flat runout and usually isn't too straight, nor too cranky.

Last night, at Keystone, was our 1st biz (beer) league race on the NASTAR hill. It was also a NASTAR scored event. That hill is FLAT, but we had fun none the less. If you are a good glider (I am not) you will like the course.

Breckenridge; is also very FLAT...maybe even flatter than Keystone!

Vail; has a pretty good NASTAR course. Flat at the top to a moderate pitch then a flat runout. I ask you this, if you will be at Vail, why would you be running NASTAR when you could be skiing VAIL???

As far as when and which days they are open you would need to get hold of the race department for each mtn.

Kev, is right on with the NASTAR course analysis of the big 4. Copper indeed has the toughest slope of those 4.

All have been open daily with few exceptions from what I've seen.

And I can relate. I'd rather ski the NASTAR courses at any rather than a free ski day at Vail. That would be the epitome of a NASTAR junkie, no?

If you wanted to make a bit more of a drive (about an hour, 2 for WP) on any given day during the stay, you also have the following options:

Ski Cooper - flat course, few racers makes it easy to qualify for Nationals - open only weekends and spotty at that due to other race commitments, call ahead.
Winter Park - Flat course - open daily with few exceptions.
Beaver Creek - never raced it yet, but dying to get there soon, I hear it is a tough nut- open daily

It's just too far to travel from Summit County, but Telluride has the best NASTAR hill in Colorado, and perhaps in the Country!! The first 3 gates are on a flat, and then you drop over the knoll and there is the very nice Double Blue/Light Black face, then the fishhook turn with a 3-4 gate flat through the finish.

I'd have to agree that Copper clearly has the most challenging terrain in Summit County.

One of my favorite NASTAR hills is Aspen Highlands. Pretty much a good pitch all the way down till the last 3-4 gates. Just like Goldilocks, not to steep and not to flat.

Hope this does not come in too late for you.

The vail nastar course has a poma right beside the course. You can make loop after loop after loop and never get tired. I think this is the best nastar course in summit County.

It has been two years since I was there but the Copper Mtn. course while, a good course was too short. and too hard to get to and I personally could not get enough runs in.

Beaver creek was same way. Good long course but too far back to the lift. The radar gun slalom course next to it was cool though.

You've missplaced Vail. It's in Eagle County. But a lift of any kind next to a NASTAR course is super.
